Find & execute on your 'meaningful few'

A thinking partner for executives with marketing responsibility

At some level most business leaders know that to increase their influence & impact , it's vital to focus on a smaller number of meaningful things.

But this is simple to say, difficult to do

How can we (and our teams) discern the "meaningful few" - then execute with energy & focus?

    I'M MATT DAY

I help leaders & their teams to identify & focus on their "meaningful few"

Anyone in a senior role intuitively knows that focusing on the right things can have an outsized impact on results.

But you're also bombarded with initiatives or priorities determined by others. The competitive landscape and your organisation are probably in flux. It's tough to discern the signal from the noise.

For the last 30 years I've worked with medium/large companies across variety of categories. I've been part of both highly successful & somewhat dystunctional teams. I've seen customer value created and destroyed. I'm recognised for my objectivity & independent thinking, but I'm also good-humoured, calm and easy to work with.

These are the experience & skills I exploit to help senior clients navigate through the chaos, get strategic clarity, and prepare for action.

  • Five principles

I believe that you can never guarantee success, but you can radically increase your odds by incorporating tried & tested principles.

Here are some of the principles which underpin my work with clients -

    Context is a strategic superpower

We increase our influence & impact when we truly understand the landscape, stakeholders and implicit
assumptions. More than observations you need insights

    Problems precede solutions

Save wasted time and a whole world of pain by first sharply defining the problem and agreeing with your stakeholders - before diving into solutions. Much activity in business is anwering the wrong question.

The meaningful few (not the trivial many)

A small number of things will have an outsized impact on our performance. What will truly shift the dial - and what is just noise? Right now, avoiding distraction is a rare competitive edge

    Win hearts, then minds

Decision-makers are gatekeepers to resources like people & money. Understand your audience as humans, their values, wants and needs. Master emotional intelligence. Start your pitch with why, then what & how

Good habits lead to great results

Design and embed ‘systems’ to take variability and risk out of execution. Reinforce the floor & raise the ceiling for performance. Create honest feedback loops to stay agile
